A recent publication reveals former Vice President Kamala Harris was unprepared for her defeat in the 2024 presidential election, a race she fully expected to win. The book claims Harris was led to believe she could emerge victorious over President Donald Trump, influenced by inaccurate polling results.

The text highlights that Harris was not alone in her surprise. Amie Parnes, a reporter for The Hill, shared insights on her podcast, "Somebody’s Gotta Win with Tara Palmeri," regarding the election night reactions from Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz. Parnes relayed details from her book, "Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House," co-authored with NBC reporter Jonathan Allen, which examines the events of the 2024 campaign.

"She was completely shocked, and [Harris’ running mate] Tim Walz was shocked," Parnes said on the podcast. During the same discussion, she added that Walz was "stunned" in his hotel room, as they both processed the election loss. "He has no words. And people are kind of explaining to him, same thing with her. And she’s like, are you sure? Have we done a recount? Should we do a recount?" she recounted.

The book sheds light on the confusion and disbelief within the Harris campaign as results showed Trump leading the race. Despite reassurances from insiders that their position was strong, the outcome defied these expectations.

A tweet from David Joe May echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the level of miscalculation by many involved with the campaign: "Apparently, their people on the inside were telling them that they were winning and winning handily."

The book suggests a broader issue, pointing to a reliance on media narratives and polling as contributing factors to the misunderstanding of the election landscape.
