A video shared by President Donald Trump on his social media platform claims to show a targeted strike on Houthi fighters in Yemen. The video, which is undated, was posted to Trump's Truth Social account. It purportedly depicts an attack on Iranian-backed rebels that the Trump administration has been targeting for the last 20 days.
Fox News highlighted that the footage shows individuals standing in a circle before a flash, seemingly from an airstrike, interrupts the scene. The camera then shows the aftermath, depicting a crater and destruction. The video, however, lacks a verified date or details about the means of the attack. President Trump commented in the video caption, “These Houthis gathered for instructions on an attack,” and expressed that this incident meant they could not conduct further attacks.
The Trump administration has ramped up its actions against the Houthis, known for their impact on shipping routes in the Red Sea. The group had claimed responsibility for assaults on U.S. ships, including an offensive last month on the USS Harry S. Truman.
National Security Advisor Mike Waltz described the Houthis as comparable to groups like al Qaida or ISIS due to their possession of advanced weapons. Waltz emphasized the importance of maintaining open sea lanes for trade and commerce as a national security priority.
Furthermore, Trump asserted that the strikes have been "unbelievably successful," stating that numerous fighters and leaders of the Houthi group are no longer active. He proclaimed that the attacks would persist until the Houthis stop threatening shipping and regional stability.
Media reports suggest these U.S. actions might be causing shifts in the region. The U.K. Telegraph reported that a senior Iranian official claimed Iran is withdrawing military support from Yemen, redirecting focus towards addressing policies related to President Trump.
According to the Telegraph, discussions in Iran are now centered on how to deal with Trump rather than regional allies, with predictions that the Houthis might not endure for long without their support chain, previously strengthened by allies like the deceased Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and former Syrian dictator Bashar Assad.
