DeKalb County has announced the opening of four warming centers to assist residents during the forecasted cold weather. These centers will operate 24 hours a day, starting at 8 p.m. until further notice. The locations are Frontline Response International on Gresham Road, Tobie Grant Recreation Center on Parkdale Drive, Mason Mill Recreation Center on McConnell Drive, and Exchange Recreation Center on Columbia Drive.
The North DeKalb Senior/Community Center in Chamblee will remain closed until Monday, January 13. However, there will be one final pickup tonight at the regularly scheduled time. After this evening, transportation pickups to Frontline International will be suspended until Monday night.
Transportation schedules for other locations include pickups from Chamblee Library and North DeKalb Senior/Community Center in Chamblee, Mason Mill Recreation Center in Decatur, Avondale Fire Station No. 3 in Avondale Estates, and other designated spots in Decatur and Stone Mountain.
Frontline Response International is tasked with providing hot meals, beds, and case management services for those seeking assistance during extreme weather conditions. Transportation from all warming centers to Frontline is available for individuals who wish to access these services.
It is important to note that DeKalb County fire stations will not serve as overnight warming center locations. However, Avondale Fire Station No. 3 will act as a transportation pickup point for those needing access to Frontline's services.
Residents requiring homelessness assistance or housing services can reach out to DeKalb County Coordinated Entry at (404) 687-3500 for support.
