DeKalb County has initiated its response to the ongoing snowstorm, with work crews starting their efforts at midnight. The teams are scheduled to work in 16-hour shifts until Saturday morning when weather conditions are expected to improve.
In the Roads and Drainage department, staff have addressed 16 reports of icy conditions. With rain affecting material composition, calcium chloride is being added to the distribution mix as temperatures drop. Coordination between Roads and Drainage, Fire Rescue, Police, and Human Services is managed through 911 dispatch.
The Fire Rescue team has received 11 calls for assistance. A Battalion Chief is stationed at E911 Dispatch to triage these calls. Four Tahoe vehicles with two-person crews are operational for handling incidents involving fallen trees and wires. Additionally, two ambulances equipped with snow chains are in service.
Human Services currently accommodates 222 homeless individuals at Frontline facilities, which have the capacity for an additional 79 beds. Guests receive meals, hygiene products, and other necessary supplies.
