A man was arrested in Clackamas County, Oregon, following an incident where an 86-year-old was stabbed multiple times at a Fred Meyer grocery store. The suspect, Jesus Ascencio-Molina, is reportedly an illegal alien from Mexico with a criminal record.
The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on December 27, 2024, after receiving reports of an assault in the parking lot. "On Friday, December 27, 2024, at approximately 2:15 p.m., the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an assault call in the 8900 block of SE 82nd Avenue in unincorporated Clackamas County. Witnesses reported seeing a man assaulting another man in a grocery store parking lot," the Sheriff's office stated.
Upon arrival, deputies provided first aid to the elderly victim who had been stabbed several times. "When deputies arrived, they immediately provided lifesaving first aid to an 86-year-old man who appeared to have been stabbed multiple times. Witnesses reported the victim had been yelling for help and saw the suspect...running from the scene," said the sheriff's office. Emergency personnel transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.
Before being taken away for medical care, the victim informed deputies that he did not know his attacker. He recounted that while loading groceries into his car, he was approached by Ascencio-Molina who then attacked him and attempted unsuccessfully to steal his vehicle. "Before leaving, the victim was able to tell deputies that the suspect...approached his car while he was loading groceries when the suspect attacked him and tried to take his vehicle," explained law enforcement officials.
According to Andy Ngo, a journalist investigating this case, Ascencio-Molina has been deported before and has a history of criminal activity in Oregon. Previously charged with attempted murder against a co-worker—a case later dismissed—Ascencio-Molina's background has become controversial due to Oregon's status as a sanctuary state.
"According to a law enforcement source not authorized to speak on record, Ascencio-Molina is an illegal Mexican national who was previously deported. He has an extensive criminal history in Oregon," Ngo reported. He further highlighted that local media have not addressed Ascencio-Molina’s immigration status or background.
Ngo shared details about this case through social media on January 4th: "Ngo investigates: On Dec. 27, 2024, a Portland man was arrested for allegedly stabbing an 86-year-old man at a Fred Meyer grocery store..."
This incident raises questions about law enforcement practices and immigration policies within sanctuary states like Oregon.
