CNN commentator Scott Jennings has voiced strong criticism of New York Democrats, accusing them of using legal proceedings against Donald Trump to generate political talking points. According to Jennings, the intention was to label Trump as a "convicted felon," while overlooking other crimes and criminals.
Jennings argued that the charges against Trump would not have been pursued if he were not running for president. He stated that the American public saw through this strategy and re-elected Trump in November.
In a statement shared on social media, Jennings said: “Radical Democrat political activists abuse the criminal justice system in New York, all to create a political talking point…when New York City is descending into a hell hole right…”
During an appearance on CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront," Jennings criticized New York officials over Trump's case, describing it as driven by "partisan" politics. A recent court filing by Judge Juan Merchan ordered Trump’s sentencing 10 days before his inauguration but indicated he would not serve jail time. When asked about possible actions for Trump regarding his conviction, Jennings replied: “I guess he could show up and continue to show what this case was all about in the first place and that is it was for a political talking point.”
Jennings further commented: “This case should have never been brought. It was brought by a partisan prosecutor if Donald Trump weren’t Donald Trump and he weren’t running for president. This case would never have been charged with felonies."
He continued by stating that there would be no punishment because the aim was solely to label him during the election period. “Of course he’s not going to be punished for it because the only reason they ever did it was so they could try to call him a convicted felon during the election, which, they, of course, did, and then the American people soundly rejected this naked partisan politics,” Jennings added.
The discussion around these events continues as Jennings maintains his stance on what he describes as misuse of the justice system for political ends.
