Jon Stewart had a revealing conversation with New York Times columnist Ezra Klein regarding the bureaucratic process behind a rural broadband project initiated by the Biden administration and Democrats. During the discussion, Klein detailed the complex steps involved in implementing the plan, sparking a notable reaction from Stewart.

Klein indicated that the broadband initiative was embraced politically due to its public approval and necessity in rural America. However, Stewart's visible frustration during the conversation highlighted concerns about governmental inefficiency.

The conversation referenced was shared by Eric Abbenante on social media, where Klein elucidated the lengthy multi-step process required of the states to access the funding. The steps include issuing a notice of funding, submitting letters of intent, requesting and awarding planning grants, and extensive procedures concerning mapping and allocation decisions.

Stewart was noticeably exasperated as he listened to Klein, exclaiming, "But then what was the five-year plan and what the [expletive] did they apply for?"

Klein continued explaining, "By my read, we have had at least two initial proposals here, but that’s a different issue," emphasizing the convoluted nature of the process. Stewart's reaction at hearing the full extent of the 14-step application for 'Build Back Better' funding was marked by his exasperated response, "OMFG."

This encounter underscores the criticism that despite the broad appeal of rural broadband, the implementation has been hampered by overwhelming governmental regulations and the involvement of multiple agencies.
