During a recent episode of The Five on FOX News, Greg Gutfeld expressed his views on the media's treatment of former President Donald Trump. Gutfeld pointed out that the media has not apologized for inaccuracies in their coverage of Trump and suggested they should be held accountable.
Gutfeld humorously proposed that the media should "eat their words," perhaps by having their statements printed on cookies. He emphasized that the media often fails to acknowledge mistakes and instead moves on to other stories aimed at stirring political sentiments.
In a discussion with panelist Harold Ford Jr., a former Democratic Tennessee Representative, Gutfeld highlighted what he perceives as an ongoing anti-Trump bias in legacy media outlets. Citing a 2017 Harvard study, he noted that CNN and NBC produced over 90% negative coverage during Trump's first 100 days in office.
Gutfeld remarked, "If you think media is fake, what do you think about the people? Where do you think the historians came from? They came from media." He further commented on the silence from those who previously criticized Trump: "What’s that silence? It’s all the people in the media who tried to take him out."
The conversation also touched upon Trump's recent comments regarding legal actions taken against him by previous administrations' Department of Justice (DOJ). Ford mentioned his wish for Trump to avoid personalizing these issues despite acknowledging them.
Gutfeld's remarks reflect his belief that there is little accountability within mainstream media for past errors related to Trump coverage. This sentiment is tied to declining ratings for some news outlets post-2024 election.
