Multiple students were injured at a University of Pittsburgh party when the roof of a porch collapsed. The incident occurred during what appeared to be a St. Patrick’s Day celebration, as many attendees were dressed in green.

The structure was unable to support the weight of several students who were sitting on it. Some students required hospitalization following the collapse.

According to reports from The New York Post, "At least 16 people were injured when a roof collapsed 'in the blink of an eye' during a massive bash near the University of Pittsburgh Friday." Video footage shared on social media captured the moment when several revelers fell as the awning gave way beneath them, landing on more partygoers below.

Carlton Gbur, who was standing under the collapsed roof and escaped uninjured, recounted to CBS: “It just fell,” adding that “Everyone was having fun, and then no one was having fun.”

Sixteen students were transported to local hospitals with various injuries; three are reported to be in serious condition, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Pittsburgh Public Safety spokeswoman Emily Bourne noted that approximately 500 people attended the party where the incident took place.

Historically, similar incidents have occurred at college parties, particularly in past decades. It serves as a reminder for college students to exercise caution and avoid overcrowding structures during gatherings.
