Gene Hackman, an Oscar-winning actor known for his performances in "The French Connection" and "Unforgiven," was found dead with his wife, Betsy Arakawa, in their Santa Fe home. Their dog was also found deceased at the scene. The discovery was confirmed by Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza late Thursday night.

Sheriff Mendoza stated there were no immediate signs of foul play, but the exact causes of death have not been disclosed as investigations continue. In a statement to the Santa Fe New Mexican, Sheriff Mendoza mentioned that Hackman and Arakawa were discovered on Wednesday afternoon in their residence located in the Santa Fe Summit community.

The police department released a statement confirming: “We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday.” An active investigation is underway into the deaths. Sheriff Mendoza reiterated there was no immediate indication of foul play but did not provide further details on the cause or timing of their deaths.

Deputies arrived at the couple's home in Old Sunset Trail, a gated community, on Wednesday afternoon to investigate. It remains unclear whether they responded to a report or conducted a welfare check.

Sheriff Mendoza noted on Wednesday evening that they are in the midst of a preliminary death investigation and awaiting approval for a search warrant. He assured residents that there is no immediate danger to anyone in the area.
