On January 20, 2025, former Clinton pollster Mark Penn criticized President Joe Biden's decision to issue preemptive pardons to certain individuals as he left office. Among those pardoned were members of Biden's family, Tony Fauci, General Mark Milley, and the entire January 6 Select Committee.

Penn expressed his disapproval through a detailed post on social media platform Twitter/X. He wrote: "The last straw. Last minute pardons for Biden’s political accomplices were the plan all along. The pardons for drug dealers and commutations for murderers were just cover for the main act of these pardons and his son — all done after elections have passed."

Penn questioned the legitimacy of actions taken by those pardoned, suggesting unresolved issues surrounding Fauci's involvement in gain-of-function research funding, Milley's communications with China, and the conduct of the January 6 committee.

In his tweet, Penn also accused Biden of misleading the public about his son's business dealings and attempting to conceal his health issues during his re-election campaign. He stated that Biden "genuinely abused his office in the closing days of his presidency."

Former President Donald Trump also commented on Biden's pardons from the White House, saying: "I was surprised that President Biden would go and pardon his own family because that makes him look very guilty."

The controversy surrounding these pardons presents a challenge for Democrats and media figures who may face ongoing scrutiny over this decision.
