Comedian Bill Burr recently appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and expressed his opinion regarding the response to the California fires. During the conversation with host Jimmy Kimmel, Burr stated that he believed "everybody did a great job" in handling the situation.
The comedian addressed criticism directed at city officials and the Los Angeles Fire Department over their response to wildfires in areas such as Pacific Palisades and Altadena. Burr dismissed these criticisms as originating from online commentators lacking expertise.
Burr shared his experience of having to evacuate due to the fires but considered himself fortunate as conditions changed. He commented, “Like most people I had to [evacuate], I got lucky. The winds moved. But the fire was coming and all that stuff, so I feel lucky. And I think everybody did a great job — unlike the internet, you know?”
He further criticized those who questioned why helicopters were not used earlier by saying, “Oh my god, all these fire experts. ‘Why don’t you just fly a helicopter into the ocean?’ I don’t know, because it was 100-knot winds? You want to do that? You want to do that at night, you f—king lunatic?"
Burr continued by mocking those who labeled the disaster management as inadequate: “‘This was definitely mismanaged.’ Mismanaged, like, some f—king idiot on the internet knows how to manage the worst fire in L.A., sitting there in his underwear,” using an exaggerated voice for emphasis.
The discussion surrounding Burr's comments has been polarizing amid reports of extensive damage caused by the fires.
