Sports anchor Jake Gadon from KOVR in Sacramento became the subject of online attention following an incident during a broadcast on "Primetime Sacramento" on KMAX-TV. While discussing the Las Vegas Raiders' decision to fire head coach Antonio Pierce, an ad featuring Rihanna modeling red lingerie appeared on one of the two computer screens behind him.
Freelance journalist Matthew Keys highlighted the incident on social media platform X, questioning Gadon's activities with a post that included an image of the screen. Keys wrote, “Hey, @JakeGadon_TV, what, uh, what kind of sports research were you doing there, buddy?”
The appearance of Rihanna's ad has sparked discussion but does not necessarily reflect poorly on Gadon. The ad is part of a campaign for her brand Savage X Fenty and was also featured in People Magazine. The prevalence and normalization of such ads might be the larger issue at hand.
Comparisons have been drawn to more significant public gaffes by figures like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Rep. Eric Swalwell or CNN's Jeffrey Toobin. However, it is unlikely that Gadon's situation will have similar long-term consequences.
