Liberal talk show host Bill Maher recently appeared on CNN, where he expressed skepticism about how history will view President Joe Biden. Speaking with Jake Tapper, Maher criticized Biden's decision to run for a second term before eventually withdrawing from the race.
Maher drew a parallel between Biden and the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. He noted that while Ginsburg was celebrated by liberals, her passing during former President Donald Trump's first term allowed him to appoint her successor. Maher suggested that Biden's actions might similarly affect his legacy within the Democratic Party.
During the interview, Tapper referenced a monologue by Maher from October 2023, in which he warned Democrats about what he termed "Ruth Bader Biden." Maher highlighted concerns over Biden's age and suggested that public perception viewed him as too old for office.
Maher stated: "Yeah. And I felt I had standing to make that case because I had for so many years been the only person I know on television who was consistently railing against ageism."
He further explained his position on ageism, emphasizing that it should be considered on a case-by-case basis: "Some people at 70 are act like they’re 100 years old and some people are like 40 year olds. But this was a case, OK, where Biden was too old."
According to Maher, Biden may be remembered as someone who overstayed his time in politics and negatively impacted his party: "And he was going to be much like Ruth Bader Ginsburg, someone who was seen in history as one who stayed out, stayed at the fair too long and cost his party dearly."
Despite taking a more neutral stance toward Trump in his second term, Maher remains critical of both Trump and elements of the radical left.
