Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki's comments from earlier this year regarding President Joe Biden's stance on pardoning his son, Hunter Biden, have resurfaced in light of recent developments. In June, Psaki spoke on her MSNBC show about President Biden's commitment to the American justice system and his decision not to pardon his son.
Psaki emphasized that the decision was rooted in principle rather than a detachment from what Hunter Biden was experiencing. She stated, "His decision not to pardon his son is not an expression of restraint or removal in any way from what his son has gone through and is continuing to go through, but of principle."
At that time, Hunter Biden had been convicted on federal gun charges, and President Biden had reiterated his stance against issuing a pardon. Psaki highlighted this as an indication of Joe Biden's character: "Because the justice system that convicted his only surviving son is the same justice system he vowed to protect," she said. "If that doesn’t tell you who Joe Biden is, I don’t really know what does."
However, recent events have contradicted these statements. On Sunday, President Biden announced plans to pardon Hunter just weeks before leaving office in January. This decision marks a reversal from his previous pledge.
Psaki previously commented on Joe Biden's integrity as a public servant: "Joe Biden’s character as a public servant is what drove him to make clear that the law applies to everyone." Her remarks are now being revisited following the change in circumstances regarding Hunter's legal situation.
The video of Psaki's monologue has gained attention online with some critics pointing out the contrast between her past statements and current actions by the President.
