Lindy Li, a prominent donor and member of the Democratic National Committee's finance committee, has raised concerns over the handling of campaign funds by Kamala Harris's campaign. She claims that substantial sums of money disappeared rapidly without accountability and alleges that certain individuals associated with the campaign gained considerable wealth.
Li has called for a thorough audit to determine how these funds were utilized. "There's a lot of conflict of interest here," she stated. "And we need a careful accounting and probably more granular than the FEC report would offer."
James Carville also supports an audit of the Harris campaign finances. Both believe that clarifying the situation is essential for future fundraising efforts within the Democratic Party. Li emphasized, "If we don’t do that, how are voters and donors ever going to trust the Democratic Party again?"
She referenced past financial challenges faced by Democrats, including debts left by Barack Obama's 2012 campaign, which Hillary Clinton cited as a disadvantage in her subsequent presidential run. According to Li, there is no justification for consultants becoming millionaires through campaign contributions meant for battleground states.
Li's remarks underscore growing frustrations among small donors who supported Harris’s campaign financially but now feel misled about where their contributions ended up.
