Democrats have been accused of promoting a false narrative about Tulsi Gabbard being a Russian asset, which journalist Glenn Greenwald has described as "a disgusting smear with no basis in reality." In a conversation with Megyn Kelly, Greenwald criticized Democrats for frequently using the Russia smear since Donald Trump's election victory in 2016.
Greenwald highlighted that the media allows Democrats to make such claims without demanding proof. "No one ever asks for proof; they just blindly accept this ridiculous claim," he stated. He emphasized that there is no evidence to support the accusation against Gabbard.
From Kanekoa the Great on Twitter/X:
"Tulsi Gabbard devoted her life to fighting for her country. A big reason why she came to dislike these intelligence services was because she went to Iraq and fought there when Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, George Bush, and Dick Cheney were sending her there. She realized that she was sent there on false pretenses, but she stayed in the army. She’s in the Army Reserves as a lieutenant colonel to this day."
Greenwald questioned how people who supported wars without participating could question Gabbard's patriotism by fabricating claims about her loyalties. "If you listen to these interviews where they call her that, the one thing that is missing is any basis whatsoever for accusing her of being that," he remarked.
Gabbard opposed President Obama and the CIA's efforts to collaborate with ISIS and Al Qaeda in an attempt to overthrow Assad in Syria. Her first-hand experience with Middle East wars informed her stance against repeating those actions.
Greenwald acknowledged his liberal stance but expressed agreement with his defense of Gabbard. With Gabbard selected by Trump to lead NIH, Greenwald anticipates intensified criticism towards her.
