Denver has reportedly spent $356 million on services for migrants, according to a recent study. The study was conducted by the Common Sense Institute (CSI), a non-partisan research organization. The reported expenditure amounts to $7,900 per foreign national in the city and represents 8% of Denver's projected 2025 budget of $4.4 billion.

The majority of this spending is attributed to education, with additional funds allocated to healthcare, hotels, transportation, and childcare. Denver is known as a sanctuary city, meaning it does not enforce federal immigration laws nor cooperates with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

Mayor Mike Johnston has expressed his willingness to face legal consequences in order to protect undocumented immigrants from deportation. He opposes mass-deportation plans and emphasizes Denver's commitment to providing services regardless of immigration status.

The study’s findings have sparked debate among residents and commentators about fiscal priorities and the impact of sanctuary policies on local budgets.
