John Bolton, a former National Security Advisor, expressed disapproval of President Trump's nomination of Kash Patel to lead the FBI. Bolton's comments come after his dismissal by Trump in 2019, when the President stated he "disagreed strongly" with many of Bolton's suggestions.

"I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning. I thank John very much for his service. I will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week," Trump said at that time.

Bolton criticized Patel's nomination by comparing him to Lavrenty Beria, a Soviet politician and secret police chief under Joseph Stalin. He remarked, "Trump has nominated Kash Patel to be his Lavrenty Beria. Fortunately, the FBI is not the NKVD. The Senate should reject this nomination 100-0."

Vice President-Elect JD Vance responded to Bolton's comments on social media by stating: "John Bolton has been wrong about everything so I guess Kash must be pretty awesome."

Vance shared this message on X (formerly Twitter) on December 1, 2024.
