A federal court in Georgia has issued a verdict in favor of True the Vote (TTV), affirming citizens' rights to advocate for election integrity without fear of persecution. The case was against Fair Fight, led by Stacy Abrams, and legal teams associated with the Biden Department of Justice. Representatives from True the Vote have stated that this ruling validates the role of eligibility challenges in maintaining accurate voter rolls.
According to Capitol Beat, TTV, a Texas-based conservative group, received a favorable ruling from U.S. District Judge Steve Jones concerning their actions in December 2020. Jones ruled that TTV's efforts, which included filing over 364,000 challenges to Georgia voters' eligibility based on changes in residency, did not constitute illegal voter intimidation. This ruling contradicts allegations made by Fair Fight Action, a voting rights group associated with Democrat Stacey Abrams.
Capitol Beat also reported that in December 2020, TTV lodged challenges prior to key runoff elections that resulted in Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock being elected to the U.S. Senate. The grounds for these challenges were changes in voters' residency which they claimed made them ineligible. Despite these challenges, local election offices largely dismissed them. Judge Jones, who recently upheld the state's new congressional and legislative district maps, determined that the group's actions did not violate the Voting Rights Act.
In a press release by TTV, President Catherine Engelbrecht said: "Today's ruling sends a clear message to those who would attempt to control the course of our nation through lawfare and intimidation. American citizens will not be silenced." Jake Evans, TTV's lead attorney said: "After almost three years of litigation and a two-week federal trial with plaintiff calling 12 witnesses, Judge Steven Jones awarded a complete defense verdict for all defendants. This decision is monumental. It vindicates True the Vote in totality and establishes that eligibility challenges under Section 230 are a proper method to ensure voter rolls are accurate. I am grateful to help achieve this great victory."
