DeKalb County has been awarded $4 million in federal funding for transportation projects, as announced by CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson. The financial support, provided by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), will be allocated to two projects in the county.

In 2024, ARC sought proposals for the Transportation Improvement Program through a solicitation process. The Federal Surface Transportation Block Grant Program (STBG) committed to financing projects aligning with ARC's regional goals. Two DeKalb County projects stood out among over 100 applicants and received the funding.

The awarded funds target intersection improvements at North Druid Hills Road intersecting with both Lavista Road and Clairmont Road. These initiatives had been identified in an earlier study, supported by both DeKalb County and ARC, focusing on the North Druid Hills Road Corridor.

The proposed upgrades are designed to ease congestion, mitigate crash risks, and enhance operations. Improving traffic flow and safety are key components of these projects.

“We are honored to receive the ARC 2024 TIP Solicitation Project Award,” stated DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson. “These much-needed funds will help advance critical transportation improvements in DeKalb County. ARC’s continued support has been instrumental to our success, and we look forward to implementing these impactful projects for the benefit of our residents and the region.”
