Commissioner Michelle Long Spears of DeKalb County District 2 announced the date and location for the second annual “State of DeKalb Animals” address. The event will be held on May 16, 2025, at the Emory Conference Center Hotel.

Participants will hear from several speakers about the progress of the Save Our DeKalb Animals Initiative. This initiative aims to advance the animal welfare goals set by the DeKalb County Animal Services Advisory Board’s Plan for a Better Tomorrow.

The Plan for a Better Tomorrow highlights five goals. It aims to create more space in shelters, enhance staffing and benefits for shelter and animal enforcement personnel, provide direct support to people and pets, prevent an increase in homeless animals, and reduce the length of stay for animals held by court order.

The event is scheduled for the Lullwater Ballroom of the Emory Conference Center Hotel, located at 1615 Clifton Road NE in Decatur. Doors will open at 10:30 am, and lunch will be served. Registration begins on April 11. For more information, visit www.michellelongspears.com/SODA, call 404 371 2863, or text 470 722 1654.
