A DeKalb County police officer was injured in a collision on Saturday, April 5th, at approximately 7:22 a.m. The incident took place on East Ponce de Leon Avenue between Rays Road and Hambrick Road. A third vehicle was also involved in the accident.

According to investigators, the crash ensued when an eastbound driver attempted to pass another vehicle by illegally crossing a double-yellow line. This maneuver resulted in a collision with the vehicle being overtaken, which subsequently crashed into a tree. The at-fault driver then collided head-on with a westbound DeKalb County Police Department officer.

The officer and two children were transported to local hospitals. They sustained serious injuries, but their condition was classified as non-life-threatening and they were listed in stable condition.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
