MSNBC host Rachel Maddow has experienced a significant decline in her viewership since the 2024 election. Reports indicate that Maddow has lost approximately 25% of her audience following President Donald Trump's victory on Election Day. This marks the second instance where a Trump win has negatively impacted the ratings of MSNBC's prominent host.
According to FOX News, "The Rachel Maddow Show" averaged 2.3 million viewers from early 2024 until Election Day but saw a reduction of 22%, bringing her average audience down to 1.8 million from Trump's win through March 7. The drop is more pronounced among adults aged 25-54, with a loss of 29% in this key demographic when comparing post-Election Day figures to those before Trump's decisive victory over then-Vice President Kamala Harris.
Further analysis shows that Maddow's viewership fell by 24% among both total viewers and the key demographic during the first two months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. This suggests a waning interest among MSNBC viewers now that former President Biden is no longer in office.
An additional factor contributing to this downturn could be Maddow's reaction to internal network decisions, such as her response to Joy Reid's firing, which reportedly did not sit well with some viewers.
As stated by johnny dollar on Twitter: "Rachel Maddow's rant at MSNBC bosses appears to have backfired spectacularly as 5M viewers fled the news program in a massive 22% ratings slump."
The situation at MSNBC remains challenging, with speculation about potential changes among its hosts amid declining ratings.
