The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) has announced that 20 of its schools have been recognized as 2025 Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools. This recognition spans across 50 categories, highlighting the district's commitment to providing high-quality educational opportunities. The announcement was made by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE).
Dr. Devon Q. Horton, DCSD Superintendent, commented on this achievement: “This outstanding achievement underscores the hard work of our teachers, the determination of our students, and the incredible support of our families.” He added his pride in the teamwork displayed by all involved and congratulated the AP Honor Schools for embodying DCSD’s vision.
The AP Honor Schools are acknowledged in eight categories based on data from last year's AP courses and exams. These categories highlight various aspects of excellence such as increased student participation, improved performance in STEM subjects, and success in humanities-related courses. Through a diverse range of Advanced Placement programs, DCSD aims to provide students with opportunities to delve deeply into subjects, earn college credit, and build confidence for future academic endeavors.
The recognition program began in 2008 under the Georgia Department of Education and has since expanded to include several new categories reflecting a wide array of academic strengths. State School Superintendent Richard Woods praised all AP Honor Schools for their role in raising academic standards statewide. He emphasized that the increasing number of recognized schools each year demonstrates Georgia’s dedication to offering advanced educational opportunities to all students.
