DeKalb County has appointed Reginald D. Wells as the new Director of Watershed Management, following the retirement of David Hayes. CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson made the announcement, emphasizing Wells' extensive experience in water resource management and infrastructure operations.

Wells will be responsible for enhancing water services, improving infrastructure, and maintaining regulatory compliance within the county. "Reginald Wells brings a wealth of expertise and a deep understanding of water infrastructure management," said Cochran-Johnson. She expressed confidence that his vision and strategic approach would ensure reliable, high-quality water services for residents.

Previously, Wells served as Assistant Commissioner for Atlanta's Department of Watershed Management. In this role, he managed a $675 million annual budget, oversaw over 1,350 employees, and directed a $1.2 billion capital improvement program. He also has prior experience as DeKalb County's Director of Watershed Management.

Wells holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering Technology from Georgia Southern University and multiple professional licenses related to wastewater and water distribution systems. His qualifications include certifications in emergency management, asset management, and OSHA safety compliance.

In his new role, Wells will oversee DeKalb County's multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program and ensure that its water treatment operations meet the needs of an expanding population while remaining at the forefront of sustainability.
