The DeKalb County Board of Registration and Elections is seeking public input on proposed changes to polling site locations. The aim is to improve efficiency and accessibility for voters. A community meeting will be held by DeKalb Voter Registration and Elections (DeKalb VRE) on Wednesday, February 5, at 6 p.m. This meeting will take place in person at the DeKalb VRE office in Decatur and will also be available via livestream through DCTV.
To facilitate participation, three satellite locations have been set up where voters can watch the meeting and provide their feedback. These locations are Northlake-Barbara Loar Library in Tucker, Chamblee Library in Chamblee, and Wesley Chapel-William C. Brown Library in Decatur.
Keisha Smith, executive director of DeKalb VRE, stated: “As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering the gold standard in elections, DeKalb VRE is proposing strategic updates to optimize polling locations.” She emphasized the importance of community feedback in shaping recommendations to the board. The proposed changes aim to enhance operational efficiency and ensure an equitable voting experience.
The review process by DeKalb VRE included evaluating polling sites that are underutilized or difficult to access. The goal is to relocate or consolidate certain sites to provide more suitable facilities for voters.
If approved by the DeKalb BRE, affected voters will be reassigned to nearby polling locations to minimize travel burdens. The proposed adjustments are designed to reflect minimal changes across different regions of DeKalb County.
Details of the proposed changes will be presented during the February 5 meeting, with opportunities for attendees both in person and online to provide feedback. Afterward, a presentation outlining these changes along with a public survey will be available on the DeKalb VRE website.
