DeKalb County is set to recognize two local public servants for their humanitarian efforts during its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration. The event, titled “Mission: Possible; Protecting Freedom, Justice, and Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence 365,” will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, January 31, at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center in Atlanta.
The honorees will receive the Nathaniel Mosby Humanitarian Award, which acknowledges their commitment to community service and positive change. The recipients are Mawuli Mel Davis, founding partner of Davis Bozeman Johnson Law and an African-Centered civil rights attorney, human rights organizer, and author; and Mike Hall, owner and president of Georgia Furniture Mart and philanthropist.
Dr. Jamal Bryant, pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, activist, and author, will deliver the King Day charge. Fred Blankenship from WSB-TV Channel 2 will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
This year marks the 41st consecutive year that DeKalb County has hosted this employee-planned event honoring Dr. King's legacy. The celebration is free and open to the public.
