Capitol Police arrest suspect after reported assault on Rep. Nancy Mace

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) was reportedly assaulted on Capitol grounds by a man identified as "pro-trans," according to her social media posts. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, and the Capitol Police confirmed the arrest of a suspect for "assaulting a government official." Mace stated that she sustained an arm injury, which required a brace and ice.

Mace has been involved in controversy with transgender activists following her successful campaign last month to prevent transgender individuals from using women's bathrooms in the Capitol complex. This policy announcement was made by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on November 20, emphasizing that "all single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings — such as restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms — are reserved for individuals of that biological sex."

Following the assault, Mace posted on her personal and official X accounts: “I was physically accosted tonight on Capitol grounds over my fight to protect women. Capitol police have arrested him. All the violence and threats keep proving our point. Women deserve to be safe. Your threats will not stop my fight for women! #HoldTheLine”

In another post, she added: “I was physically accosted at the Capitol tonight by a pro-tr*ns man. One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm and it’ll heal just fine. The Capitol police arrested the guy. Your tr*ns violence and threats on my life will only make me double down. FAFO.#HoldTheLine”

Capitol Police released a statement confirming the arrest: “Tonight, the United States Capitol Police (USCP) arrested a person who is accused of assaulting a U.S. Representative... officers arrested the suspect, 33-year-old James McIntyre of Illinois.”

Recently, video footage showed Mace being confronted by pro-transgender activists but not attacked.

Additionally, Rep. Mace responded last week to an incident involving transgender activist Bradley “Chelsea” Manning's arrest for occupying a women's bathroom at the Capitol complex: “Chelsea Manning is literally trying to erase women’s rights and has the nerve to act like he’s the victim here. I’ve had enough. #HoldTheLine”
