Georgia Piedmont Technical College issued the following announcement on Feb. 17.

After a special signing ceremony at its Newton campus recently, Georgia Piedmont Technical College is now proud to welcome ten new students into its academic fold. These particular students are apprentices in a U.S. Department of Labor registered apprenticeship program.

The program focus is industrial maintenance and has been customized to align with the workforce needs of participating companies. Industries in DeKalb, Newton, and Rockdale counties partnered with GPTC’s Economic Development Division to develop the curriculum for the program and enroll their incumbent workers.

The apprentices will complete 600 hours of relate technical instruction with GPTC’s academic affairs faculty and 6,000 hours of on the job training (OJT) with a mentor at their respective companies. Upon the successful completion of the program, the apprentices will earn multiple industry-recognized credentials.

Many thanks to Beaver Manufacturing, Bostick Inc., Golden State Foods, Hormel, and SRG Global for their commitment to this partnership.
