County of DeKalb issued the following announcement on Jan. 19.

DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson, in his role as the District 3 Commissioner and president of the National Association of Counties (NACo), is a panelist in the 2022 Outlook on States, Counties and Cities, cohosted by The Volcker Alliance and Penn Institute for Urban Research, Thursday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m.

Commissioner Johnson has been selected as part of an esteemed group of influential forward-thinking leaders featuring experts from the Volcker Alliance’s national research network and Penn Institute for Urban Research, along with other leading academics, economists, and federal, state and local leaders.

“For almost two years, The Volcker Alliance and Penn Institute for Urban Research have brought top federal, state, and local government officials together with leaders in municipal finance and academia on the Special Briefing webcasts to address the fiscal and physical challenges to the nation posed by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said William Glasgall, the Alliance’s senior director, public finance. “We are thrilled to have Mr. Johnson as a panelist, both as president of the National Association of Counties and member of the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners.”

As a guest panelist, Commissioner Johnson will discuss the outlook for counties amid inflation and as federal COVID aid decreases.  He will be joined by other great leaders such as:

Torsten Slok, chief economist, Apollo Global Management

Mark Zandi, chief economist, Moody's Analytics

Eric Kim, senior director, Fitch Ratings Inc.

“I consider it an honor to be amongst such great leaders to deal with the challenges that we are facing,” said Commissioner Johnson.  “We are presented with unprecedented times and we must continue to share and empower people with the necessary information and tools to make informed decisions”.
