Comedian Bill Burr is known for his candid and often controversial statements. Recently, however, he declined to discuss politics when approached by journalists. This change came amid scrutiny over previous remarks made during public appearances, including a comment suggesting billionaires should be treated like "rabid dogs" and criticism of Elon Musk on "The View."
While attending the 2025 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, reporters pressed Burr about his political views. He responded, "I don't think you read up on it because I said what I felt about it, and I said what a lot of people said." He further stated, "No, I'm not gonna' just have some controversial moment so you can get clicks. I'm not doing that."
When pressed regarding Trump and Musk, Burr deflected, saying, "I don't watch the news! I have no idea what's going on," and explained his preference for light content online.
Political commentator Jesse Kelly speculated, "My completely unsubstantiated theory is that Bill Burr got paid to do that anti-Trump media tour he just completed." Kelly suggested Burr might be experiencing backlash from his audience.
As Burr maintains a reluctance to engage with reporters on political matters, observers are left to wonder about the reasons behind this shift in approach.
