Two Michigan activists, Ramon Jackson and Pastor Lorenzo Sewell, recently testified in a hearing led by Rep. Rachelle Smit's Election Integrity Committee. The committee aims to gather evidence of voter fraud in Michigan's past elections. During their testimonies, the activists pointed to alleged Democratic tactics involving absentee ballots and transient populations to commit voter fraud.
"The election deniers in today’s committee hearing are yet another sign that Michigan Republicans are untethered from fact and reality when it comes to our elections," stated Curtis Hertel, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party, in a press release. Hertel criticized the Republican-led effort and suggested proposed poll tax measures threatened voter access.
Activists claim they uncovered cases in Detroit where votes were cast by individuals who were out of state or from ineligible addresses. Despite this, Democrats, including Hertel, dismiss these allegations, labeling them as racially motivated efforts to suppress votes. They argue the investigations are outdated and detract from present-day electoral priorities.
Democrats have underlined that the narratives promoted by Jackson and Sewell are unfounded and rely on misinformation. They believe the ongoing investigations are politically driven and detract from genuine electoral progress.
While Detroit activists insist on uncovering voter discrepancies, Michigan Democrats continue to oppose their accusations, stating they are not aligned with their legislative agenda and are based on discredited claims from the 2020 election.
