President Donald Trump has endorsed Senator Lindsey Graham for re-election in 2026. The endorsement was announced on Truth Social, where Trump praised Graham as a "wonderful friend" and highlighted his efforts in economic reform, border security, and military support. Trump urged South Carolinians to back Graham's campaign, stating, "HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN."
In his endorsement message, Trump commended Graham for his dedication to growing the economy, lowering taxes, eliminating government waste, securing the border, supporting the military and veterans, promoting American energy dominance, defending the Second Amendment, and ensuring peace through strength.
Despite Trump's support for Graham now, their relationship has been contentious in the past. During the 2016 primaries, Graham called Trump a “race-baiting, xenophobic religious bigot” on CNN. He also urged Americans to "tell Donald Trump to go to hell" and accused Trump's supporters of embracing demagoguery.
Graham has previously criticized Trump's foreign policy as "gibberish" and questioned his temperament and judgment for presidency. Additionally, he condemned Trump's actions related to January 6th events.
Lindsey Graham has often aligned himself with establishment Republicans such as Mitt Romney and John McCain. Critics within the conservative movement view him as a war hawk who supports defense budgets benefiting the military-industrial complex.
The endorsement from Trump raises questions among some of his supporters about whether he has overlooked past disagreements with Graham or if this is a strategic political move.
