Over the weekend, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the construction of seven new miles of border wall in Arizona. This announcement was made via her Twitter/X account and is part of the administration's ongoing efforts to enhance border security.
Noem stated in a video, "Everybody up here in Arizona and right at this spot, you can see where the border wall ends. As of today, we’re starting seven new miles of construction; we’re going to continue to make America safe again." She further emphasized this by tweeting, "Announcing today – we’re building 7 more miles of wall. Make America Safe Again!"
According to FOX News, this development marks the beginning of additional border wall construction during President Donald Trump's second term. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) awarded a contract worth over $70 million to Granite Construction Co. for these new sections in the Rio Grande Valley Sector.
This move contrasts with former President Joe Biden's actions on his first day in office when he halted all border wall construction along the U.S.-Mexico border. However, under Biden's administration in late 2023, approximately 20 miles of border barriers were constructed in South Texas using funds appropriated during Trump's first term.
