Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins has announced significant savings for the Department of Veterans Affairs after a review of contracts. According to Collins, the department saved approximately $900 million by examining just two percent of its existing contracts.
In a video posted on his official X account, Collins addressed concerns about changes within the department, assuring that these adjustments would not affect healthcare or benefits for veterans and VA beneficiaries. He emphasized the commitment to providing essential services: “VA will always fulfill its duty to provide veterans, families, caregivers and survivors the health care and benefits they have earned. That’s a promise, and while we conduct our review, VA will continue to hire for more than 300,000 mission critical positions to ensure health care and benefits for VA beneficiaries are not impacted.”
The review is part of a broader effort to identify wasteful spending within the department's operations. As part of this initiative, Collins highlighted that they are assessing 90,000 contracts valued at over $67 billion. The initial findings led to the cancellation of nearly 600 non-essential or redundant agreements.
Collins' announcement reflects ongoing efforts under the Trump administration to enhance efficiency in services provided to American veterans.
