The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs has announced the return of its Summer Food Program for 2025. In collaboration with the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning and the Happy Helping Program, this initiative aims to provide meals to youth aged 18 years and under during the summer months. The program is scheduled to operate from June 9 through July 18.

Agencies interested in participating as distribution sites are encouraged to apply. To qualify, a site must serve a population where at least 50 percent of children meet income guidelines for free or reduced-price meals under the National School Lunch Program. Children from households receiving food stamp benefits or Aid for Dependent Children (AFDC) assistance automatically qualify for the program.

Funding for this initiative comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, focusing on children up to age 18. Agencies running summer camps that wish to become program sites should contact Rose McGrue at 678-698-1114. Applications and detailed participation requirements are available online at www.dekalbcountyga.gov/parks under Summer Food or can be collected in person at Mason Mill Recreation Center located at 1340 McConnell Drive in Decatur between Monday and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The deadline for submitting completed applications is Friday, May 16.
