Shooting at Kirtland Air Force Base leaves one airman dead

A shooting incident at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico resulted in the death of one airman and left another injured. The event occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday following an "off-base pursuit."

According to the Air Force, "One Airman received a nonfatal gunshot wound to the hand and was transported to UNM Medical Center for treatment. He has since been released with no life-threatening injuries." Additionally, "The other Airman was found dead at the scene. The cause of death and the incident remains under investigation by local authorities."

No details about the shooter or any possible motive have been disclosed by the Air Force, but it was confirmed that it was not an act of terrorism.

Authorities have closed Kirtland Truman Gate Pass office until further notice. Military officials clarified that the incident was neither caused by an outside attack nor considered an act of terrorism.

The Air Force assured there is no threat to public safety, and law enforcement is not looking for additional suspects.
