Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is facing criticism after traveling to Africa while destructive fires broke out in her city. Upon her return, she addressed the situation in a TV interview, announcing an investigation into why she was permitted to make the trip despite potential fire risks.
In an interview with Fox 11 Los Angeles, Mayor Bass expressed regret for not being present during the crisis. "I felt absolutely terrible not being here for my city," she said. She admitted it was a mistake and found it painful that she was absent during such a critical time. The mayor stated that there was inadequate preparation to inform her of the fire danger before her trip to Ghana.
Bass further explained that if she had been properly informed about the risk, she would not have traveled even as far as San Diego. "It didn’t reach that level to me to say ‘Something terrible could happen and maybe you shouldn’t have gone on the trip,'" she remarked.
The mayor revealed that at least two investigations are underway regarding the city's response to the fires. She emphasized the need for comprehensive scrutiny of all aspects of what transpired, including her decision to travel.
A video from Townhall.com highlights Mayor Bass's comments: "We're launching investigations to find out why nobody told me that I shouldn't have gone to Africa while my city burned."
The situation raises questions about accountability and whether Mayor Bass will ultimately be held responsible for her absence during a critical time for Los Angeles.
