The DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) is set to hold its inaugural discussion as part of a significant initiative to tackle violent crime in local communities. The first listening session will take place on Thursday, January 16, at 8:30 a.m. at Rehoboth Baptist Church, located at 2997 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA 30084.

In December, DKPD announced the start of a new three-year Public Safety Partnership (PSP) with the Department of Justice (DOJ). This partnership aims to assist communities by utilizing data for developing new crime solutions and providing tailored support in areas such as crime analysis, gun violence, and technology. Throughout this collaboration, the DOJ will examine DKPD’s successes and challenges in combating crime and offer guidance and resources specifically designed for DeKalb County's needs.

At the end of 2024, DKPD reported a 14% decrease in violent crime compared to 2023. The PSP aims to build on this progress to further enhance safety within the community.

This opportunity is limited in scope but significant for DeKalb County's efforts against crime. DKPD is among only twenty jurisdictions nationwide participating in this partnership and is the first agency in Georgia to do so. Various federal, state, and local agencies will participate in this event, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office.

Media partners are welcome to attend but will have restricted access limited to the morning session. Interested parties should email dkpdpio@dekalbcountyga.gov for attendance details.
