Trump's incoming border czar, Tom Homan, criticized New York Governor Kathy Hochul following a tragic incident on the New York subway. An illegal immigrant allegedly set a woman on fire, leading to her death. Homan appeared on FOX News and expressed his disapproval of New York's sanctuary policies, which he claims allowed the suspect to remain in the country.
Homan accused Governor Hochul of being "tone-deaf" after she posted about subway safety improvements just hours after the incident. He stated, "Governor Hochul, shame on you. There’s nothing you can say that’s going to make this right in New York."
In response to crime concerns, Hochul had deployed 750 National Guard members to New York City subways last week. Despite these efforts, Homan emphasized the ongoing issue of crimes committed by illegal immigrants due to what he describes as lax immigration enforcement.
Homan also took aim at broader immigration policies under the current administration. He remarked, "Here’s another example of an illegal alien killing an American citizen. It’s almost a daily occurrence now."
The incident and subsequent criticism highlight ongoing debates over sanctuary policies and immigration enforcement in major U.S. cities.
