Following a recent shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, President Joe Biden has called for stronger gun control measures. This appeal comes shortly after he pardoned his son Hunter Biden for various offenses, including a gun-related crime.

The incident at the school resulted in three fatalities, including the suspected juvenile shooter, and left six others injured. In response to this tragedy, President Biden urged Congress to implement universal background checks, establish a national red flag law, and ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

In his statement, Biden emphasized the need for legislative action: “We need Congress to act. Now. From Newtown to Uvalde, Parkland to Madison, to so many other shootings that don’t receive attention — it is unacceptable that we are unable to protect our children from this scourge of gun violence. We cannot continue to accept it as normal.”

He further stated: “Every child deserves to feel safe in their classroom. Students across our country should be learning how to read and write – not having to learn how to duck and cover.”

The call for gun control has sparked reactions on social media platforms like Twitter/X. Users have pointed out what they perceive as hypocrisy due to Biden's recent pardon of his son Hunter for lying on a federal firearms application.

Mark Hemingway commented: "HE LITERALLY JUST PARDONED HIS SON FOR GUN CRIMES!" Amy Curtis added: "Joe Biden pardoned his son for lying on a background check form." Another user known as The Dank Knight remarked: "He just pardoned his own son for breaking current gun laws."

Actress Justine Bateman also weighed in on the broader issue of selective activism regarding gun control discussions following different incidents. She noted the lack of immediate calls for gun control after the shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

"The murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was the first time I can remember where a shooting wasn't immediately followed by a demand for gun control," Bateman stated.
