Arnold Schwarzenegger was targeted in a swatting incident on Thanksgiving. Swatting involves making a false police report, often about a violent crime, to trigger an emergency response at someone's home or business.
The Los Angeles Police Department received a fake tip claiming there was a bomb in the actor's mailbox. No explosives were found on the property. According to TMZ, "cops rushed to the home and searched the mailbox and surrounding area … but, they did not find an explosive device." Officers spoke with Schwarzenegger’s security team, who indicated that it would be nearly impossible to plant a bomb due to constant security and surveillance.
Schwarzenegger was not present during the incident; he was reportedly at the gym. The investigation into this swatting is ongoing, with no arrests made as of December 1.
Page Six reported that before this event, Schwarzenegger engaged in community service by distributing turkeys with Tom Arnold at the Hollenbeck Youth Center in Los Angeles. They handed out over 1,000 turkeys along with other food items.
Swatting poses significant risks and has previously resulted in fatalities. In 2017, Andrew Finch from Wichita, Kansas was killed following a false report by serial swatter Tyler Barriss. Barriss later pleaded guilty to multiple charges of swatting and received a 20-year prison sentence.
