President Trump has nominated Linda McMahon for the position of Education Secretary. This nomination is intended to replace Miguel Cardona, who currently leads the department.
Trump announced, "It is my great honor to announce that Linda McMahon, former Administrator of the Small Business Administration, will be the United States Secretary of Education." He highlighted McMahon's role over the past four years as Chair of the Board at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), where she advocated for parents' rights and worked towards universal school choice in 12 states.
Trump praised her experience on the Connecticut Board of Education and her service as a member of the Board of Trustees at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut. "We will send education back to the states, and Linda will spearhead that effort," Trump stated.
He further outlined his intentions to reshape federal education policy by signing an executive order on his first day in office to cut federal funding from schools promoting critical race theory or enforcing vaccine or mask mandates. Trump emphasized his plan to minimize the Department of Education's staff while focusing on basic educational subjects without what he termed "woke" teachings.
