The Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) has awarded the DeKalb County School Board with the 2024 Quality School Board recognition. This accolade acknowledges the board's commitment to governance and leadership standards, which are essential for district improvement and progress.

Board Chair Mr. Diijon DaCosta, Sr. commented on the award, stating, "This award reflects the power of collaboration, hard work, and a shared commitment to excellence." He emphasized the board's dedication to fostering a culture of excellence, transparency, and accountability while building trust within the community. "This recognition highlights the powerful impact of our efforts to elevate educational outcomes," he added.

Dr. Devon Q. Horton, Superintendent of DeKalb County School District, also expressed his satisfaction with this achievement. "Earning the 2024 Quality School Board recognition is a significant milestone for our Board of Education," Dr. Horton said. He noted that effective governance and leadership are crucial to providing high-quality education in DeKalb County.

The GSBA will honor recipients at its annual conference in Atlanta this December. The GSBA Governance Team Recognition Program was established by Georgia superintendents and board members to celebrate outstanding school board leadership based on state standards since 1998.
