The City of Dunwoody invites community members to nominate deserving candidates for the 2022 Sustainability Hero Awards. Initiated in 2012 and presented by Dunwoody’s Sustainability Committee, the Sustainability Hero Award program honors exemplary individuals and organizations to recognize their dedication, service, and leadership in sustainable practices.

“The nomination process helps us learn and share more about local individuals and groups going above and beyond to protect our natural resources and improve our community,” said Nathan Sparks, chair of Dunwoody’s Sustainability Committee “This program can also inspire others to start their own sustainable practices.”

The nomination period for the 2022 Sustainable Hero Award program begins February 13 and runs through March 6, 2023. Interested residents, local nonprofits, and area businesses can participate in the process by filling out an online nomination form. The winners will be selected by Dunwoody’s Sustainability Committee and announced in April.

Nominated individuals must be residents of the City of Dunwoody. Likewise, nominated companies or businesses must be licensed within the City of Dunwoody or have clear ties to sustainable initiatives in Dunwoody in order to be included in the selection process. Laura Johnson and the Dunwoody Community Garden and Orchard were selected as recipients of the 2021 Sustainability Hero Awards. You can read more about their efforts using this link.

The City of Dunwoody Sustainability Committee meets monthly and serves to encourage the city and the community to reduce its environmental impact by improving resource efficiency. Public education and outreach on sustainability are central to this mission.
