Republicans in the House have recently passed the SAVE Act, a proposed law that would mandate proof of citizenship for voter participation. Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville openly criticized the initiative in an appearance on NewsNation, labeling the requirement as "totally unnecessary."
Carville argued, “Well, let’s start with a massively unnecessary idea. There has been study after study, and I mean a lot of studies and good studies, that say that the amount of fraud in American elections is almost undetectable." He emphasized that such measures would add unnecessary bureaucratic barriers without addressing any significant problems.
Carville also highlighted issues that he perceives as more pressing, stating, “Why don’t we solve problems that actually exist, like, say, Medicaid to the states that this budget is utterly destroying?"
A video shared by Western Lensman on social media captured Carville describing the proposed act as a "massively unnecessary idea," further stating, "I'm not saying that you have all these people vote on Election Day with zero fraud, but the honesty of American elections are not a problem. Not a problem in the least."
Adding to the criticism, Sunny Hostin of "The View" expressed concerns that requiring identification could discourage voter turnout among women and minorities. A video shared on social media by End Wokeness featured Hostin claiming, "Many blacks and women will not be able to vote if we require ID."
The debate over the necessity and implications of the SAVE Act continues, with Carville and others questioning the motivations behind the legislative push.
