Former "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd recently revealed on the Piers Morgan show that members of the media have in the past held back from covering issues surrounding President Joe Biden. According to Todd, this avoidance stemmed from a reluctance to be seen as aiding former President Donald Trump.
On "Piers Morgan Uncensored," Todd stated that legacy media made a mistake by not adequately focusing on Biden's challenges, particularly during the period leading up to his debate with Trump in June 2024. He remarked, "I sit here, and I’ll defend a little bit of this in that I would argue the reason people were able to come to their own conclusion on Joe Biden is because of the media coverage." Todd acknowledged that the media coverage was subtle, providing examples such as, "He’s using the back staircase. He’s not using the front staircase," and "He’s not doing any interviews." He admitted that there was hesitation to confront these issues directly, saying, "That was held back — held back a lot."
Todd attributed this to a "fear that some members of the media had sometimes — that they would be perceived as helping Trump if they somehow diminished Biden." He added, "I think this has been the fundamental mistake that many members of the traditional press have done."
The admission has sparked discussions regarding the objectivity and credibility of media outlets, with trust in the press reportedly at low levels.
