Illegal border crossings have significantly decreased during the first month of President Trump's new term, challenging previous claims by Democrats about the necessity of a border bill. Throughout the election period, Democrats, media members, and debate moderators asserted that former President Biden was unable to halt the southern border influx due to Republican opposition to a border bill. They accused Trump of obstructing the bill's passage for political gain.
Karoline Leavitt, Press Secretary, highlighted this development on social media: "Remember when Joe Biden and Democrats said they needed a border bill to secure the border?" She noted that President Trump achieved this reduction in four weeks without requiring new legislation.
CBS News reported a significant drop in illegal crossings under Trump's administration. The preliminary data shows approximately 8,450 apprehensions at the U.S.-Mexico border last month, contrasting sharply with daily records exceeding 8,000 apprehensions during Biden's tenure.
Commentator Ed Morrissey from Hot Air criticized previous administrations: "Everything Harris and Biden said about border enforcement was a bald-faced lie." He argued that Trump managed effective enforcement without additional legislation during his first term and suggested that past Democratic strategies aimed at forcing Republicans into unfavorable compromises.
Elon Musk echoed similar sentiments on the Joe Rogan podcast regarding immigration strategies. Musk stated: "That was the game plan… that is still the game plan… and they almost succeeded."
The ongoing reduction in illegal crossings comes despite an incomplete wall along the southern border.
