Former President Donald Trump's approval rating on the handling of the Ukraine-Russia situation is notably higher than that of President Joe Biden, according to CNN data analyst Harry Enten. This revelation comes in the wake of Trump's recent encounter with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House.
Enten presented his analysis during a CNN segment, highlighting a significant contrast between public perceptions of Trump and Biden's approaches to the conflict. "Do Americans like the way that Trump is handling his job compared to how they felt about Joe Biden?" Enten asked, as he showcased a graph comparing their net approval ratings. He noted, "You look at Joe Biden back in 2024, he was 22 points underwater, holy cow? You look at Donald Trump, it’s just a different planet entirely."
According to Enten's findings, Trump currently holds a net approval rating of plus-2 regarding his management of the Russia-Ukraine issue. In comparison, Biden's rating stood at negative 22 points by the end of his term. "So, look at this particular point," Enten continued, "Americans are giving Donald Trump the benefit of the doubt. He’s doing considerably better than Joe Biden was doing on the handling of the Russia-Ukraine conflict."
Enten further elaborated on shifting public opinions: "The share (31% to 50%) who want a compromise in the war is way up." Additionally, there has been a notable decrease in those viewing Russia as an enemy—from 64% down to 34%.
Despite these figures from CNN itself, political commentators within and outside the network continue to debate and criticize Trump's approach to Ukraine. These discussions highlight ongoing divisions over U.S. foreign policy strategies among media analysts and political leaders.
